چکیده

Vibratory stimulation but also motor imagery and action observation can induce corticomotor modulation, as a bottom-up stimulus top-down stimuli, respectively. However, it remains unknown whether the combination of imagery, observation, vibratory effectively increase excitability. This study aimed to investigate effect and/or in presence or absence stimulation, on excitability healthy young adults. was provided palm right hand. Action consisted viewing movie someone else’s finger flexion extension movements. The condition required participants imagine they were moving their fingers while attempting move accordance with movie. Eleven right-handed adults asked perform six conditions randomly: 1) 2) 3) blank screen, 4) 5) 6) screen. Single-pulse transcranial magnetic conducted assess peak-to-peak amplitude evoked potentials. results showed that increases corticospinal findings further revealed performing movement is more effective at inducing an augmentation compared alone. Thus, augment

Virtual Reality-Guided Motor Imagery Increases Corticomotor Excitability in Healthy Volunteers and Stroke Patients

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of using motor imagery (MI) in combination with a virtual reality (VR) program on healthy volunteers and stroke patients. In addition, this study investigated whether task variability within the VR-guided MI programs would influence corticomotor excitability. METHODS The present study included 15 stroke patients and 15 healthy right-handed volunteers who w...

Action imagery combined with action observation activates more corticomotor regions than action observation alone.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Both action observation (AO) and action imagery have been proposed as therapeutic options for stroke rehabilitation. Currently, it is not clear to what extent their underlying neuronal mechanisms differ from each other and whether one of these therapeutic options might be preferable for this purpose. METHODS Twenty-six neurologically healthy subjects were investigated u...

Combining observation and imagery of an action enhances human corticospinal excitability.

The present study investigated whether combining observation and imagery of an action increased corticospinal excitability over the effects of either manipulation performed alone. Corticospinal excitability was assessed by motor-evoked potentials in the biceps brachii muscle following transcranial magnetic stimulation over the motor cortex during observation, imagery or both. The action utilize...

Combined action observation and imagery facilitates corticospinal excitability

Observation and imagery of movement both activate similar brain regions to those involved in movement execution. As such, both are recommended as techniques for aiding the recovery of motor function following stroke. Traditionally, action observation and movement imagery (MI) have been considered as independent intervention techniques. Researchers have however begun to consider the possibility ...

Corticomotor excitability during precision motor tasks.

The aim of this preliminary study was to investigate motor cortex (cortical) excitability between a similar fine visuomotor task of varying difficulty. Ten healthy adults (three female, seven male; 20-45 years of age) participated in the study. Participants were instructed to perform a fine visuomotor task by statically abducting their first index finger against a force transducer which display...
